It's October. Can you believe it?
It has been ONE WHOLE YEAR since I relocated Bombshells by Melissa from Norfolk to Newport News, and what a year it has been. I had a small celebration event on the anniversary. We mingled, we admired each others hair. I performed a few Tarot Readings. We enjoyed some food, dessert and wine. Talked about books.... it was an overall good time and I look forward to hosting more events like it. If you didn't know I was hosting an event, are you even paying attention? Just kidding, it was posted on my social media so if you aren't following me you really should.
Here is a quick recap of what else happened this year:
Earlier this year I did a subtle rebrand- which I'm still making small changes here and there- changing things like my Instagram handle from @brooklynnbombershells to @bombshellsbymelissa. This change means I can be found on all social platforms as Bombshells by Melissa and should make it easier for people to find my pages.
I started the year posting book reviews on the salon IG, and eventually decided to only post reviews on my Bombshells + Books page. You will still notice that I share the posts on my salon page stories, and yes I am reading that much.
This year I struggled to find content for my social media pages and I finally landed on product education. I cross post on Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook so the information is being shared on all platforms.
I did a couple of raffles and promotions. I added Tarot and Reiki to my services, and switched from complimentary Tarot readings to giving complimentary Oracle Card readings.
I continue to add decor to the suite, and more changes to decor will be coming soon.
And yet, one of the biggest changes this year is coming in the next few weeks.......
Bombshells by Melissa is expanding. Here's the story:
My dear friend from Cosmetology school, in San Diego California, is moving here from Oklahoma. She is recently married and leaving her salon business in OKC to relocate here to live with her Spouse. I am beyond excited to have her share Suite 301 with me while she builds her business here. The plan is for her to eventually move into her own suite, but suites in my building rarely become available so it may be some time before one is available. In the interim, I'm happy to share the suite with her so that she can have the same benefits of suite ownership as I do. This is a positive change, but with all change there are some challenges. Sharing the Suite will mean that I will have to stick to my set schedule. With less flexibility I seriously recommend prebooking appointments, and I am considering bringing back standing appointments to ensure you will get the appointment you want every time. As of today, we have not finalized how we will split the schedule but I imagine we would alternate days week to week. Anyway, there are logistics in process and there will be more concrete information shared to inform everyone when the changes will take effect. As usual I will be posting on social media about the updates, so make sure to keep an eye out there.
Book Club: I posted about the October B+B Meetup last month. I chose Stephen Kings Bag of Bones as the first book and at the meetup we will decide together what the next book will be. Eventually, when there is a steady interest and a set group of attendees, we will take turns choosing the book, but in the meantime we will each recommend a book and the group will vote on the next months book. If you are interested in joining the B+B Book Club, send a message to the @bombshellsandbooks Instagram. I will send you all the information for the meetup date and time coming up. If you read the book already, we will be having a short discussion, and then watching some of the Made for TV Movie to see how it compares. It's not a typical book club meetup, and we wont do this every book, obviously, but there are a lot of good books with movie adaptations we may decide to discuss both.
Halloween is fast approaching and I have blocked my time off for that day to perform some rituals. We don't get Trick or Treaters, and I haven't dressed up in a few years, but I always make a point of doing something to take advantage of the thin veil we experience during this season. Are you interested in a Halloween Tarot Reading? I'm offering 10 minute reading for $10 if you mention this blog post and specifically tell me about this promotion. I won't be sharing it anywhere else. You will need to schedule a time so complete an appointment request online, or send me a text. Text would be faster and doesn't require you answer hair related questions if you're only interested in Tarot. This promotion is valid for scheduled appointments from now until Halloween.
That's all for now, Bombshells. Check back again in about a month for some more updates.
